Seek out your teacher or tutor, or talk with friends who may know more about the topic than you do. Do whatever it takes so that you can fully understand before moving on.

Step 2 – Memorize and Practice

After you’ve mastered the content, the next step to becoming a smart student is practicing what you’ve learned. This means reviewing your notes and flashcards before an exam and then quizzing yourself on the material in between classes.

Practice makes perfect! You need to use this method for everything from math problems to spelling words. There’s no way around it- if you want to become a smart student, this has got to be your mantra.

Step 3 – Get Out Of the Classroom

When it’s time to get out of the classroom, we’re not talking about never going to school. Rather, this step is all about how to learn outside of the classroom. With the advent of technology and social media, there are a lot more ways to learn than just reading textbooks in a traditional classroom setting.

Step 4 – Learn From Other Sources

It is important to learn from other sources in order to be a smart student. This includes using your teachers and their expertise but also using online sites such as Khan Academy and Coursera. These are two examples of places that offer free videos about many different subjects which can help you further understand the material you are learning in school.

The more information that you know, the better it will be for you when it comes time to take exams and quizzes.

Step 5 – Exercise

Exercise is important for not only physical health but mental health as well. When you exercise, your brain releases endorphins and dopamine, which makes you feel happy and less anxious. You can also improve your problem-solving skills by exercising because it stimulates the frontal lobe of your brain.

The more active you are, the better your memory will be because when you exercise, blood flow increases to the hippocampus region of the brain which helps with memory function.

Step 6 – Sleep Well, Eat Right

Know your body. Get a good night’s sleep, eat healthily, and manage your stress. This is all about self-care, which is a crucial part of being a smart student. Sleep deprivation can lower your brain power, making it hard to concentrate on anything for long periods of time.

Eating right and managing stress will also help you to stay focused and alert in class while keeping your energy levels up.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!

Step 7 – Manage Stress

A few things you can do to manage stress are:

  • Take a break and get some fresh air.
  • Breathe deeply from your stomach.
  • Drink plenty of water, eat healthy food, and exercise regularly.
  • Talk to someone about what is stressing you out.

Step 8 – Do What You Love Doing Best

Do what you love doing best and you’ll never work a day in your life. – Albert Einstein

This may sound like cliche advice, but it’s true. If you enjoy what you’re learning, the work will be more fulfilling and rewarding. For example, if you like math more than English, do your best to excel in math class by taking extra classes or working with a tutor to become better at it.
